Vikalp Foundation

Dr. Chandra Shekhar Azad was born on February 10, 1961, and completed his secondary education in Wardha, Maharashtra. From a young age, he exhibited remarkable leadership skills, inspiring many of his classmates. He pursued a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) and received specialized training in Leprosy Eradication at Wardha.

After completing his college education, Dr. Azad joined Gram Nirman Mandal at Sarvodya Ashram in Nawada, one of Bihar’s most reputable rights-based NGOs, founded by the esteemed Bharat Ratna, the late Jay Prakash Narayan. In his role as Administrator and Organizer of the Leprosy Eradication Hospital run by the Gram Nirman Mandal, Dr. Azad demonstrated unwavering dedication and commitment.

 Throughout his tenure with Gram Nirman Mandal, Dr. Azad actively participated in numerous seminars and workshops addressing critical issues such as health, education, child development, malnutrition, AIDS, polio, local self-governance, women empowerment, and micro-enterprise development. His tireless efforts, sincerity, and diligence earned him respect and recognition in the community.

Driven by his vision of creating a more equitable and just society, Dr. Azad was inspired to establish an organization that would embody his dreams and values. This vision led to the founding of Vikalp Foundation in 1998. Under his leadership as the Secretary of the organization, Vikalp Foundation has focused on community welfare through inclusive education, livelihood support, accessible healthcare, and women empowerment.

Dr. Azad’s journey from a young student leader to the founder of Vikalp Foundation is a testament to his relentless dedication to social service and his unwavering commitment to building a better society for all, especially the underserved. His life’s work continues to inspire and impact countless lives in Gaya and other districts of Bihar.
